Omeo District Health provides four acute care beds for patients requiring short-term hospital treatment, observation and clinical care. Acute care supports people recovering from illness or injury, managing a sudden change in health, or requiring treatment that cannot be provided safely at home.
Patients may be admitted from the Urgent Care Centre, referred by their GP, or transferred from another health service. Where specialised treatment is required, arrangements can be made for transfer to a larger regional hospital.
Safe Staffing, Quality Care
Omeo District Health is committed to providing safe, high-quality care and complies with the requirements of Victoria's Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Act 2015 (the Act). This legislation establishes minimum nursing staffing requirements in Victorian public health services to support patient safety, quality care and positive health outcomes.
Our acute care unit is staffed by qualified nurses who provide 24-hour care, monitoring and support, working closely with medical, allied health and specialist services to ensure patients receive the care they need close to home
Omeo District Health provides sub-acute care for people who no longer need acute hospital treatment but require further rehabilitation, nursing care, monitoring or support before returning home. Care is tailored to individual needs and focuses on recovery, improving independence, and supporting a safe return to everyday life. Referrals may come from an acute admission, another health service, or a treating doctor.
Sub-acute care may include:
Ongoing nursing care and clinical monitoring
Rehabilitation following illness, injury or surgery
Physiotherapy to improve strength, mobility and balance
Occupational therapy to support independence with daily activities
Medication management and review
Nutrition and dietary support
Care planning and discharge coordination
Education and support for patients, families and carers

At Omeo District Health, palliative care focuses on comfort, dignity, choice and quality of life for people living with a serious or advanced illness, while also supporting their families and carers. Care is tailored to individual needs and may include symptom management, emotional support, care planning, and family support.
We work closely with patients, families, GPs and specialist services to ensure care reflects each person's wishes, values and goals.
