Your Responsibilities 

As a consumer of ODH services, you can help us provide safe and effective care by: 

  • Providing accurate and relevant information about your health, medical history and personal circumstances. 

  • Working in partnership with your healthcare team and participating in decisions about your care. 

  • Treating staff, volunteers, visitors and other consumers with courtesy, dignity and respect. 

  • Following agreed treatment plans and asking questions if you do not understand the information provided. 

  • Helping to maintain a safe environment for everyone. 

  • Respecting the rights, privacy and confidentiality of other people receiving care. 

  • Advising staff if you choose not to follow recommended treatment or care plans and understanding the possible consequences of those decisions. 

  • Providing feedback, compliments or complaints to help us improve our services.

Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights 

Omeo District Health supports the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights. The Charter describes the rights of people receiving healthcare in Australia and applies wherever healthcare is provided.

You can access services to address your healthcare needs.  

Safety 

I have a right to receive safe and high-quality healthcare. 

You can expect care that is delivered with professional skill, competence and attention to safety.  

Respect 

I have a right to be treated with dignity and respect. 

Your culture, beliefs, values and individual needs will be recognised and respected.  

Partnership 

I have a right to be included in decisions and choices about my healthcare. 

You are encouraged to partner with your healthcare team and participate in decisions about your care.  

Information 

I have a right to clear information about my condition, treatment options, services and costs. 

Information will be provided in a way that supports understanding and informed decision-making.  

Privacy 

I have a right to privacy and confidentiality. 

Your personal and health information will be handled appropriately and kept confidential.  

Give Feedback 

I have a right to provide feedback or make a complaint. 

You can comment on your care and have concerns addressed promptly and fairly.
